Uganda is one of Africa's largest coffee producers, and the country's south-west, including the hills around Ankole, is part of that story. If you have the time, the African Coffee Park in Rwashamire, Ntungamo, is worth the detour: a large agro-tourism site built entirely around Ugandan coffee, with a landscaped setting that's as much a reason to visit as the coffee itself.

Closer to home, breakfast at Occazia is served daily, with special-diet meals available on request, not an afterthought bolted onto the room rate, but a proper start to a day that might involve a long drive to Bwindi or a walking safari at Lake Mburo.
